| This is a great shot of a Green Sea Turtle at the
Sheraton Caverns. If you want to see "Greens" this is the
place to do it. Because it is the oldest of all the boat dive
sites on Kauai, the Turtles (in fact all the animals) are totally
tamed and go about their business as if we are not even there. The
name Green Sea Turtle has nothing to do with the color of the animal
( in fact is there any other colored sea turtle but green?) but the
color of their fat and some bodily fluids inside of these guys.
They are the only true herbivore in the sea turtle family and
because they feed entirely on Alga as an adult, the inside of the
turtle is green, not the outside. Pretty cool huh. Green
Sea Turtles can also be sexed by the size of their tales after they
mature. The big tails are males and the little dainty tails
are females. |
